Noble men celebrate and rejoice over the great activities and fame of great persons

हृष्यन्ति चारुचरितैस्सुजनस्य सन्तः क्षुद्रत्वमाशु पिशुनादपि सन्त्यजन्ति।

रत्नं न केवलमलङ्करणाय लोके क्रूरग्रहादिशमकं च भवेत्प्रभावैः॥

त्रिलोचनस्य

hṛṣyanti cārucaritaissujanasya santaḥ kṣudratvamāśu piśunādapi santyajanti|

ratnaṁ na kevalamalaṅkaraṇāya lokekrūragrahādiśamakaṁ ca bhavetprabhāvaiḥ||

Noble men celebrate and rejoice over the great activities and fame of great persons. They simply ignore or steer clear of the words and activities of backbiters and double crossers. Great gems found on the face of earth are used as decorations, as is well known. At the same time the same gems are used to keep oneself clear of the adverse effects of evil planets too.

Here, the mind of the noble men to praise the good in others is equated to the ornamental quality of a gem, and their capacity to ignore the evil slander created by backbiters is equated to the quality of the gems to prevent bad effects of unfavourable planets. The quote is from poet Thrilochana.

ഹൃഷ്യന്തി ചാരുചരിതൈസ്സുജനസ്യ സന്തഃ

ക്ഷുദ്രത്വമാശു പിശുനാദപി സന്ത്യജന്തി।

രത്നം ന കേവലമലങ്കരണായ ലോകേ

ക്രൂരഗ്രഹാദിശമകം ച ഭവേത്പ്രഭാവൈഃ॥

നല്ല ഹൃദയമുള്ള സജ്ജനങ്ങള്‍ മഹാന്മാരുടെ സല്‍പ്രവൃത്തികളും വിജയങ്ങളും കണ്ടു ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നു,ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. അതേസമയം ഏഷണിക്കാരുടെയും ദുഷ്ടന്മാരുടെയും വാക്കുകളും കുതന്ത്രങ്ങളും പാടെ തള്ളിക്കളയുന്നു. ഭൂമിയില്‍ വിലപിടിച്ച ഒരുപാടു രത്നങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ട്. അവ ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ ആയി സ്വയം അലങ്കരിക്കാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ തന്നെ ക്രൂരഗ്രഹങ്ങളുടെ ചീത്ത ഫലങ്ങള്‍ ബാധിക്കാതിരിക്കുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടിയും അണിയാറുണ്ട് എന്നത് പ്രസിദ്ധമല്ലേ ?
