Vilvamangala or leelashuka

Vilvamangala or leelashuka was a great lover of Krishna a great poet..A sannyasi a swami. Guruvayurappan stories are filled with the names of vilvamangalam and kurooramma. The description of this poet itself can make volumes.

Leelashuka is the name of Bilvamangalam Swamigal in his poorvashramam.. Bilvamangalam swamigal is revered as one of the greatest devotees of Guruvayruappan ,,,

Leelashuka was immersed n worldly pleasures, and at one stage in life there was nothing in his life more important than spending his nights in amorous pleasures with his lady love.. Once he was away from her and it was a night with torrential rain akin to the one during the midnight of Krishna's birth.. He braved his way through the torrential rain and swam across huge flood to reach the house of his lady love.. Reaching the house of the lady he saw that the gate was locked and saw a rope hanging from the wall,, He caught hold of the rope and found his way to the bed of the lady..

Next morning, he saw that the rope he had used for climbing was indeed a snake.. The lady, on seeing her lover remarked.." If you had coveted Krishna the same way you coveted my body, life would have been different and your life would have had some meaning."

That statement changed Leelashuakas life.. and the man became a saint

The story has a version that the man crossed the river floating on a dead body..
