नह्यसत्याद् परोऽधर्म इति होवाच भूरियम्।
सर्वं सोढुमहं मन्ये ऋतेऽलीकपरं नरम्॥

बिभेमि न तथा मृत्योर्यथा बिभ्येऽनृतादहम्॥
महाभारते वनपर्वे ३०२-६
bibhemi na tathā mṛtyoryathā bibhye'nṛtādaham||
mahābhārate vanaparve 302-6
nahyasatyād paro'dharma iti hovāca bhūriyam|
sarvaṁ soḍhumahaṁ manye ṛte'līkaparaṁ naram||
bhagavate 8-20-4
The goddess of Earth in person herself declared. There is no evil, no cause for danger, no deviation from the righteous path, than speaking untruth. Mother earth further declares, I would be able to bear all misdeeds, and would keep on my surface all sorts of beings, except people who deviate from the path of honesty, who do not hestitate to adopt deception.

Bhagavan Vyasa says in Mahabharatham than he would fear a situation that would lead one to tell untruth, or a person who would speak untruth, even more than a situation where he would face sure death.
നഹ്യസത്യാദ് പരോഽധര്മ ഇതി ഹോവാച ഭൂരിയം।
സര്വം സോഢുമഹം മന്യേ ഋതേഽലീകപരം നരം॥
ഭാഗവതേ ൮-൨൦-൪
ബിഭേമി ന തഥാ മൃത്യോര്യഥാ ബിഭ്യേഽനൃതാദഹം॥
മഹാഭാരതേ വനപര്വേ ൩൦൨-൬
അമ്മയായ ഭൂമീദേവി സ്വയം പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നു. അസത്യത്തേക്കാള് ഹീനമായ ഒരു അധര്മ്മവും ഇല്ല. ഭൂമി വീണ്ടും ശങ്കക്കിടയില്ലാത്ത വിധം പറയുന്നു. ഏതു കാര്യവും സഹിക്കുവാന് എനിക്ക് കഴിയും, ഏതു വിധത്തിലുള്ള ജീവിയേയും ഞാന് ചുമന്നു നില്ക്കും പക്ഷെ നേരും നെറിയും ഇല്ലാത്തവനെ, കളവു പറയുകയും വഞ്ചനയോടെ ജീവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന വ്യക്തിയെ താങ്ങി നിര്ത്തുക എന്നത് മിക്കവാറും അസാധ്യമാണ്.
ശ്രീമദ് ഭാഗവതത്തില്
വ്യാസഭഗവാന് ഭാരതത്തില് പറയുന്നു.

മരണം വന്നെയ്ക്കുമോ എന്ന ഭയത്തെക്കാള് അസത്യം പറയുന്നതിനെ, അസത്യം പറയുന്നവനെ ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു
