कस्तस्य जीवितार्थः सति विभवे कश्च तस्य पुरुषार्थः।
योऽर्थिनमभिमुखमागतमनभिमुखः सन्विसर्जयति॥ २३ ॥
नीतिद्विषष्टिका
kastasya jīvitārthaḥ sati vibhave kaśca tasya puruṣārthaḥ।
yo'rthinamabhimukhamāgatamanabhimukhaḥ sanvisarjayati॥ 23 ॥

If a person is having a lot of wealth and resources in his control and if he turns away without an positive response when some person in genuine need approaches him for help and assistance, then what is the meaning and the purpose for the life of the rich person, or for the means of life in his possession ( like good conduct, affluence, fulfilment or bliss )?
Affluence and resources that would not help to assuage the difficulties of the needy are sheer waste.
यः who, a person विभवे सति having resources and capacity to help अर्थिनं with a request for help, assistance अभिमुखं in front of him आगतं having come अनभिमुखः turning away सं विसर्जयति rejects, withdraws, abandons तस्य for that personकः जीवितार्थः, कः पुरुषार्थः च ?
കസ്തസ്യ ജീവിതാര്ഥഃ സതി വിഭവേ കശ്ച തസ്യ പുരുഷാര്ഥഃ।
യോഽര്ഥിനമഭിമുഖമാഗതമനഭിമുഖഃ സന്വിസര്ജയതി॥ ൨൩ ॥
നീതിദ്വിഷഷ്ടികാ
ഒരാള്ക്ക് കൈയില് ധാരാളം പണവും ജീവിത സൌകര്യങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നിട്ടും, അത്രയൊന്നും ഭാഗ്യവാനല്ലാത്ത മറ്റൊരാള് അയാളെ സഹായത്തിനായി സമീപിക്കുമ്പോള് ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാതെ മുഖം തിരിക്കുവാനാണ് അയാള്ക്ക് തോന്നുന്നതെങ്കില് പിന്നെ അത്തരം സമ്പന്നന്റെ ജീവിതം കൊണ്ടും അയാളുടെ ജീവിതലക്ഷ്യങ്ങളായ ധര്മം അര്ത്ഥം കാമം മോക്ഷം എന്നീ പുരുഷാര്ത്ഥങ്ങള് കൊണ്ടും എന്ത് പ്രയോജനം ഉണ്ടാവാനാണ്?
ആവശ്യമുല്ലവരുടെ സഹായത്തിന് ഉതകാത്ത സമൃദ്ധി ഒന്നിനും കൊള്ളാത്തതാണ്.
