My name has nothing to do with English Language. It is the name of an ancient deity consecrated in some ancient Brahmin settlement in South India. It was the name of my paternal grandfather and many grandfathers in our family for centuries. It connotes Lord Vishnu the Narayana taking rest on the bed formed by the snake Anantha or Seshanaga floating in the Milky ocean. My grandson and son of Karthik too is Ananthanarayanan. Sure,
When the first grandfather in our lineage got the name अनन्तनाररायण शर्मा, no one ever thought about the spelling in English for the name. Moreover, my son inherited the name Vaidyanathan, which is from innumerable grandfathers. We have dozens of Vaidyanthans in our family even now. Karthik is just a pet name to honour the star or constellation on which day he was born. In all our Vedic rituals, we use only the traditional name and tag it with Gotra, Sutra, Vedic Sakha and the names of the father, paternal grandfather and paternal great grandfather. Yes, we have lost almost all money and comforts as migrant Brahmins settled in Kerala but still we cling on to millennia in tradition and Lineage
