eagerness to help is the test of greatness

यो लोकम् अनुगृह्णाति दरिद्रं दीनमानसम् ।

स पुत्रपशुभिर्वृद्धिं यशश्चाक्षयम् अश्नुते ॥१६६॥ [५.३९.१५]

अमित्रमपि यो दीनं शरणैषिणमागतम् ।

व्यसनेष्वनुगृह्णाति स वै पुरुष उच्यते ॥१६७॥ [१३.५८.१०]

सारसमुच्चये

yo lokam anugṛhṇāti daridraṃ dīnamānasam ।

sa putrapaśubhirvṛddhiṃ yaśaścākṣayam aśnute ॥166॥ [5।39।15]

amitramapi yo dīnaṃ śaraṇaiṣiṇamāgatam ।

vyasaneṣvanugṛhṇāti sa vai puruṣa ucyate ॥167॥ [13।58।10]

saarasamucchayam

A person who is eager to receive and render all possible assistance to people who approach him with intense metal distress and misery would be blessed with eternal fame and also would be ever endowed with huge number of cattle and also with famous and worth sons.

A person who holds to himself and provides all possible relief to a suffering person who has approached him seeking relief and assistance, even if such person is not a friend, even if such person is an enemy of sorts, alone is to be called a real human being

यः which man दरिद्रं poor दीन मानसं mentally depressed, miserable लोकं person ,the people in general अनुगृह्णाति receives and renderes all assistance सः he पुत्र sons पशुभिः cattle वृद्धिं abundance अक्षयं यशः never ending fame च अश्नुते too attain

यः who दीनं weak and miserable शरणैषितं seeking refuge and relief आगतं having comke अमित्रं अपि even an unfriendly person, even an enemy व्यसनेषु during the time of distress अनुगृह्णाति helps, holds close to himself सः वै he alone पुरुषः उच्यते is called a real man

യോ ലോകം അനുഗൃഹ്ണാതി ദരിദ്രം ദീനമാനസം ।

സ പുത്രപശുഭിര്വൃദ്ധിം യശശ്ചാക്ഷയം അശ്നുതേ ॥൧൬൬॥ [൫।൩൯।൧൫]

അമിത്രമപി യോ ദീനം ശരണൈഷിണമാഗതം ।

വ്യസനേഷ്വനുഗൃഹ്ണാതി സ വൈ പുരുഷ ഉച്യതേ ॥൧൬൭॥ [൧൩।൫൮।൧൦]

സാരസമുച്ചയ

സഹായവും ആശ്വാസവും തേടി കടുത്ത ദുരിതവും മാനസിക സമ്മര്‍ദ്ദങ്ങളും അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന ആളുകള്‍ അടുത്ത് എത്തുമ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക് കഴിയാവുന്ന സഹായം എല്ലാം ചെയ്യുവാന്‍ മടിക്കാത്ത മനുഷ്യന്‍ തീരാത്ത യശസ്സും, ധാരാളം കന്നുകാലികള്‍ നിറഞ്ഞ സമ്പത്തും ധീരരും ഉത്തമരും ആയ സന്തതികളും കൊണ്ട് അനുഗൃഹീതന്‍ ആവും.

സുഹൃത്ത് ഒന്നും അല്ലെങ്കിലും ഒരു പക്ഷെ അല്പസ്വല്പം ശത്രുത ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ പോലും ഒരാള്‍ കഷ്ടം അനുഭവിച്ചു ആ അവസ്ഥയില്‍ സഹായവും ആശ്രയവും തേടി ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ തേടി എത്തുമ്പോള്‍ അയാള്‍ തന്നോട് ചേര്‍ത്ത് നിര്‍ത്തി വേണ്ട സഹായം എല്ലാം ചെയ്യാന്‍ തയാറാവുന്ന ആളാണ്‌ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ മനുഷ്യന്‍
