येषां श्रीमद्यशोदासुतपदकमले नास्ति भक्तिर्नराणां
येषां आभीरकन्या प्रियगुणकथने नानुरक्ता रसज्ञा।
येषां श्रीकृष्णलीलाललितगुणरसे सादरौ नैव कर्णौ
धिक् तान् धिक् तान् धिगेतान् कथयति सततं कीर्तनस्थो मृदङ्गः॥
सुभाषितरत्नमाला ४ चाणक्य
yeṣāṁ śrīmadyaśodāsutapadakamale nāsti bhaktirnarāṇāṁ
yeṣāṁ ābhīrakanyā priyaguṇakathane nānuraktā rasajñā|
yeṣāṁ śrīkṛṣṇalīlālalitaguṇarase sādarau naiva karṇau
dhik tān dhik tān dhigetān kathayati satataṁ kīrtanastho mṛdaṅgaḥ||

The percussion instrument mridangam gives the beat dhik thaan dhik thaa dhigethaan (in sound) (dhik means destruction, disgrace thaan means on them.. )..
This dhik thaan is for
Those men who do not have devotion at the lotus feet the darling son of Yasodha, the feet which are most glorious and sacred
Those men whose tongues are shy and are not delightfully engaged in eloquently praising the greatness of that youth who is the heart throb of the cowherd damsels of Gokulam and Brindaban
Those men whose pair of ears that do not become respectful and get full to the brim partaking the essence of the stories describing the mirthful and divine activities of Shri Krishna
येषां for those नराणां men श्रीमद् the most exalted and holy यशोदासुता son of mother Yashoda पदकमले at the lotus feet भक्तिः devotion नास्ति not there
येषांof those नराणां men रसज्ञा tongue आभीरकन्याप्रियगुणकथने in describing the greatnes of the darling of the cowherd damsels न अनुरक्ता not delightfully engaged
येषां whose नराणां men कर्णौ pair of ears श्री कृष्ण लीला ललित गुण रसे who do not patake in imbibing the essence of the mirthful and playful activities of shri Krishna न एव do not ever सादरौ भवत become respectfully attentive
धिक् तान् destruction to them धिक् तान् destruction to them धिगेतान् fie on them कीर्तनस्थः when played मृदङ्गः mridangam सततं always कथयति tells
യേഷാം ശ്രീമദ്യശോദാസുതപദകമലേ നാസ്തി ഭക്തിര്നരാണാം
യേഷാം ആഭീരകന്യാ പ്രിയഗുണകഥനേ നാനുരക്താ രസജ്ഞാ।
യേഷാം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണലീലാലലിതഗുണരസേ സാദരൌ നൈവ കര്ണ്ണൌ
ധിക് താന് ധിക് താന് ധിഗേതാന് കഥയതി സതതം കീര്ത്തനസ്ഥോ മൃദങ്ഗഃ॥
സുഭാഷിതരത്നമാലാ ൪ ചാണക്യ
വിരലുകള് കൊണ്ട് വായിക്കുമ്പോള് മൃദംഗം ദിക്ക് താന് ദിക്ക് താന് ദികെതാന് എന്ന് താളത്തില് സ്വരം പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുന്നു.. (ദിക്ക് താന് എന്നാല് സംസ്കൃതത്തില് അവര്ക്ക് പാരാജയവും, വിലക്കുറവും എന്നര്ത്ഥം)
യശോദയുടെ ഓമനപ്പുത്രന്റെ പരിപാവനങ്ങളായ താമരപോലുള്ള കാലിണകളില് നിരന്തരമായ ഭക്തി ഇല്ലാത്തവരുടെ ജീവിതം അര്ത്ഥമില്ലാത്തത് (ദിക്ക് താന്)
ഗോകുലത്തിലെ ഇടയപ്പെന്കൊടികളുടെ പ്രാണനാഥനായ കണ്ണന്റെ പെരുമ പറഞ്ഞു നിര്വൃതികൊള്ളാത്ത നാവുകള് ഉള്ളവരുടെ ജീവിതം ഉപയോഗശൂന്യം (ദിക്ക് താന്)
ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെ ലീലാവിലാസങ്ങളുടെ രസം കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുകള് നിറയുമ്പോള് ആദരവോടെ ശ്രവിക്കുന്ന കാതുകള് ഇല്ലാത്തവന് എന്തിനു ജീവിക്കണം? (ദിക്ക് താന്)
(മൃദംഗത്തിലെ താളത്തിനൊത്തുള്ള വിരലുകളുടെ നമ്മെ കൃഷ്ണചരിതം ഓര്മ്മപ്പെടുത്തുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതം അര്ത്ഥമില്ലാത്തത് ആണെന്ന് കവി സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു)
