If there is Sradham on Deepavali day in Amavasya Thithi, Should / Can the Grihasth take Narakachaturdasi snanam?
My take on it
The acharam now seen is that the deepavali snananam etc are performed early and after giving some time the kartha and connected people take another bath empty the kitchen and observe the pitrukaryam.
See, Deepavali is just a Loukika karyam and the performance of pitru karyam takes precedence. Some shastras even would indicate that a sort of special obligation something like aashaucham but not aashaucham happens when pitrus visit and so no other observation is possible.
The process of pitru karyam starts even on the previous day of the sraddham.
Therefore, sticklers to oid methods might even avoid Deepavali celebration if Shraddham intervenes.
Shraddam is a duty.. Deepavali is only a celebration. It is not like Sandhyavandanam or aupasanam .
In our house the persons doing amavasa tarpanam if Amavasai comes on deepavali day would not do abhyanga taila snanam at all. That is observed by my grandfather my father and me too
