कामं मा कामयध्वं वृषमपि च भृशं माद्रियत्वं न वित्ते

चित्तं दत्त श्रयध्वं परममृतकला या कला तामिहैकां।

इत्थं देवः स्मरारिवृषम्धरचरीकृत्य मूर्त्येव दित्सन्

निःस्वो विश्वोपदेशानमृतकरकलाशेखरस्त्रायतां वः॥

kāmaṁ mā kāmayadhvaṁ vṛṣamapi ca bhṛśaṁ mādriyatvaṁ na vitte

cittaṁ datta śrayadhvaṁ paramamṛtakalā yā kalā tāmihaikāṁ|

itthaṁ devaḥ smarārivṛṣamdharacarīkṛtya mūrtyeva ditsan

niḥsvo viśvopadeśānamṛtakarakalāśekharastrāyatāṁ vaḥ||

May Lord Shiva, the Chandrasekhara protect you.

He is desiring to give the message that people should not indulge fancifully too much in worldy pleasures and amorous activities(Kama). Therefore he turned to ashes Kamadeve the lord of love

He is desirous of giving the message to the people that they should follow the rules and statutes and dharmic codes (Vrisham) in a substantial way, but such adherence should not cloud their fairness and compassion. So Vrisha should be in control.. Therefore he rides on a bull which Is called Vrisha

He wants to give the message that people should not crave for money, and run around amassing wealth. (Therefore he remains penniless)

At the same time, he wants the world to take the message that the fine arts and sources of knowledge which are eternal and without destruction either in parts or as a whole, and there is nothing in the universe more important and immortal than such eternal fine arts.. and in comparison the riches of the world are worthless and one need not have any desire to possess such wealth. Therefore, the lord wears destructionless arts, amruta kala.. this could also mean the moon who has the eternal crescent—on his head, which is the most coveted location and

At the same time remains penniless in terms of worldly assets.

त्वं you कामं too much मा कामयध्वं do not crave for worldly pleasure भृशं too much मा not वृषं on written and prescribed rules and procedures cha not too त्वं you वित्ते न on accumulation of wealth माद्रिय do not be enamoured of परम् suprem अमृतकला whose parts or fragments are eternal या which कला the art, fine arts which are excellent तां that एकंone इह here चित्तं दत्त keep in mind, concentrate upon श्रयद्वं and follow that and be happy इत्थंthus विश्वोपदेशान् advice to the universeमूर्त्या इव through his form and appearance दित्सन् desiring to give अमृतकला शेखरः the one who keeps the moon having immortal ambrosical crescent on his head देवः स्मरारिः the lord who is the enemy of Smara the Kamadeva वृषंधर चरीकृत्य making the bull as his vehicle which he controls निस्वः without any material possession वर्तते remains सः he वः you त्रायतां may protect

കാമം മാ കാമയധ്വം വൃഷമപി ച ഭൃശം മാദ്രിയത്വം ന വിത്തേ

ചിത്തം ദത്ത ശ്രയധ്വം പരമമൃതകലാ യാ കലാ താമിഹൈകാം|

ഇത്ഥം ദേവഃ സ്മരാരിവൃഷമ്ധരചരീകൃത്യ മൂര്‍ത്യെവ ദിത്സന്‍

നിഃസ്വോ വിശ്വോപദേശാനമൃതകരകലാശേഖരസ്ത്രായതാം വഃ||

ചന്ദ്രശേഖരനായ, തിങ്കള്‍ക്കല ശിരസ്സില്‍ ചൂടിയ ഭഗവാന്‍ ശങ്കരന്‍ നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കട്ടെ

ഏറെ ലൌകികമായ കാമത്തിലും അനുരാഗത്തിലും മനസ്സിനെ ചരിപ്പിക്കരുത് എന്ന സന്ദേശം നല്‍കുവാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹം ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു അതുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം കാമദേവനെത്തന്നെ ചുട്ടു ചാമ്പലാക്കി

ധാര്‍മ്മികമായ നിയമങ്ങളും ദിനചര്യകളും നല്ലവണ്ണം പിന്തുടരണം (വൃഷം എന്ന വാക്കിനു ധര്‍മ്മം എന്ന അര്‍ത്ഥം ഉണ്ട്) പക്ഷെ അത് നീതിക്കും കാരുണ്യത്തിനും വിലങ്ങുതടിയാകാതെ വേണ്ട നിയന്ത്രണങ്ങളോടെ ആവണം എന്ന സന്ദേശം അടിവരയിട്ടു നല്‍കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു കാളയെ (വൃഷം എന്നാല്‍ കാള എന്നും അര്‍ത്ഥം ഉണ്ട്) നിയന്ത്രിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് അതിന്‍റെ പുറത്ത് സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നു.

പണത്തിനും പണം കൊണ്ടുണ്ടാവുന്ന സുഖങ്ങളിലും മനസ്സിനെ ആസക്തമാക്കരുത് എന്ന സന്ദേശം നല്‍കാന്‍ അദ്ദേഹം ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍ എന്നും സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു സമ്പാദ്യവും ഇല്ലാതെ അദ്ദേഹം വിരാജിക്കുന്നു.

അതേ സമയം കലയു ജ്ഞാനവും ഭാഗികമായാലും പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായാലും അമൃതതുല്യങ്ങളും വിനാശരഹിതങ്ങളും മറ്റെല്ലാ വസ്തുക്കളെക്കാളും പ്രാധാന്യം ഏറിയതും ആണെന്ന വസ്തുത എല്ലാവരെയും ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടി അദ്ദേഹം അമൃത കലയുള്ള..അതായത് ഒരിക്കലും നശിക്കാത്ത കലയുള്ള ചന്ദ്രനെ തന്‍റെ ശരീരത്തിന്‍റെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ഭാഗമായ ശിരസ്സില്‍ ധരിക്കുന്നു. (ഇവിടെ അമൃത കല എന്ന വാക്കിനു അനശ്വരമായ കല എന്നും ചന്ദ്രക്കല എന്നും അര്‍ത്ഥം കാണാം. )

പക്ഷെ ഭൌതികമായ സമ്പത്തുകള്‍ക്ക് ഒരു പ്രാധാന്യവും ഇല്ല എന്ന വസ്തുത നമുക്ക് സന്ദേശം ആയി നല്‍കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി ഒരു സമ്പാദ്യവും ഇല്ലാതെ നിസ്വനായി അദ്ദേഹം നിലകൊള്ളൂന്നു

സ്വന്തം രൂപവും പരിവാരങ്ങളും പ്രവൃത്തികളും കൊണ്ട് നമുക്ക് അപ്രകാരമുള്ള സന്ദേശം നല്‍കുന്ന ആ സര്‍വശക്തന്‍ നമ്മെ രക്ഷിക്കട്ടെ.
