प्रतिक्षणे मृत्युहरं निजायुर्न वेद मूढो विषयेषु सक्तः।
भेको यथा व्यालमुखे प्रविष्टः स मक्षिकां द्वेष्टि विनष्टबुद्धिः॥
सुभाषितरत्नमाला ९
pratikṣaṇe mṛtyuharaṁ nijāyurna veda mūḍho viṣayeṣu saktaḥ|
bheko yathā vyālamukhe praviṣṭaḥ sa makṣikāṁ dveṣṭi vinaṣṭabuddhiḥ||

The deluded human being who is obsessed with carnal desires and eagerness for temporary gratifications fails to realize the fact that every moment of his life is being drained away by death.
In this behaviour he is just like a frog which has already landed up in the mouth of a huge snake and is getting swallowed in slowly but is just sticking out its tongue to attack a fly which is darting around.
विषयेषु in worldly, carnal pleasures सक्तः attached intently, obsessed with मूढः deluded नरः human being प्रतिक्षणे every moment मृत्युहरं being robbed, being taken away by death निज own आयुः age, life, longevity न not वेद realize recognize यथा just like व्यालमुखे in the mouth of a huge snake प्रविष्टः having entered, being caught विनष्टबुद्धिः who has lost all good sense, lost sense of discretion and capacity to think rightly भेकः frog मक्षिकां fly द्वेष्टि irritates, tries to attack
പ്രതിക്ഷണേ മൃത്യുഹരം നിജായുര്ന വേദ മൂഢോ വിഷയേഷു സക്തഃ।
ഭേകോ യഥാ വ്യാലമുഖേ പ്രവിഷ്ടഃ സ മക്ഷികാം ദ്വേഷ്ടി വിനഷ്ടബുദ്ധിഃ॥

അല്പസമയത്തെക്ക് മാത്രം സന്തോഷവും പിന്നീട് ഒത്തിരി ദുഃഖങ്ങളും വിഷമങ്ങളും അവശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിഷയസുഖങ്ങളില് പെട്ടുപോകുന്ന വിവരമില്ലാത്ത മനുഷ്യന് തന്റെ ജീവിതത്തെ മരണം ഓരോ ക്ഷണവും ഒഴുക്കി കളഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണെന്ന സത്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നതേയില്ല. അയാള് ഒരു പാമ്പിന്റെ വായില് പിന്ഭാഗം അകപ്പെട്ട തവളയെപ്പോലെ പെരുമാറുന്നു. പാമ്പ് കുറേശ്ശയായി തവളയെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷെ കുറച്ച് ജീവന് ബാക്കിയുള്ള തവള ,സ്വയം ചാവാന് പോകുന്നു എന്ന കാര്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കാതെ ഇനിയും പാമ്പിന്റെ വായ്ക്ക് പുറത്തുള്ള തന്റെ നാവു നീട്ടിപ്പിടിച്ചു അടുത്തെവിടെയോ പറന്നു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഈച്ചയെ ആക്രമിച്ചു കീഴ്പ്പെടുത്തുവാന് ശ്രമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
