lot of idiots but wise men are too few

 

भवन्ति बहवो मूर्ख़ाः क्वचिदेको विशुद्धधीः |

त्रासितोऽपि सदा मूर्ख़ैरचलो यस्य बुद्धिमान् ||

- वेदान्ताचार्य

bhavanti bahavo mūrख़āḥ kvacideko viśuddhadhīḥ |

trāsito'pi sadā mūrख़airacalo yasya buddhimān ||

In this world, we would come across many stoneheaded and idiotic people. Rarely indeed, sometimes, somewhere, it is possible that a person possessing intellect of purity and high standards. 

 If a person remains unaffected and unshaken by the onslaughts of the idiotic banterings of idiots and ruffians all around him and keeps mind unbiased and unprejudiced, then he is to be considered as a great intellectual.

 

लोकेin this world बहवः many मूर्खाः idiots, stoneheaded fellows भवन्ति are there . क्वचित् somewhere, at some time एकः one विशुद्ध धीः of exalted, purified intellect अपि too वर्तते is present . यस्य whose mind धीः intellect, thought process मूर्खैः by idiots, by ruffians त्रासितः being threatened, being shaken अपि too अचलः immovable, steadfast सः he एव alson बुद्धिमान् possessing of real intellect इति thus माननीयः to be considered.

ഭവന്തി ബഹവോ മൂര്‍ഖാഃ ക്വചിദേകോ വിശുദ്ധധീഃ |

ത്രാസിതോഽപി സദാ മൂര്‍ഖൈരചലോ യസ്യ ബുദ്ധിമാന്‍ ||

ഈ ലോകത്തില്‍ ധാരാളം വിഡ്ഢികളും എടുത്തുചാട്ടക്കാരും ഉണ്ട്. വല്ലയിടത്തും വല്ലപ്പോഴും ഇരുത്തം വന്നതും ഉയര്‍ന്ന നിലവാരം പുലര്‍ത്തുന്നതും ആയ ധിഷണ കൈമുതലാക്കിയ ഏതെങ്കിലും വ്യക്തിയെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടി എന്നും വരാം. എത്ര വിഡ്ഢികളുടെ പ്രേരണയും ആക്രമണം തന്നെയും നിരന്തരം നേരിട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നിട്ടും സ്വന്തം ബുദ്ധിയും ചിന്താസരണികളും ഇളക്കം തട്ടാതെ നേരായ വഴിയില്‍ നയിക്കാന്‍ കഴിവുള്ള വ്യക്തി മാത്രമാണ് യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ ബുദ്ധിമാന്‍ എന്ന വിശേഷണത്തിനു അര്‍ഹന്‍
