status, weighty presences, all these are achieved by a person through his own activities

 

न कस्यचित्कश्चिदिह प्रभावाद्भवत्युदारोऽभिमतः खलो वा ।।

लोके गुरुत्वं विपरीततां वा स्वचेष्टितान्येव नरं नयन्ति

na kasyacitkaścidiha prabhāvā dbhavatyudāro'bhimataḥ khalo vā ।।

loke gurutvaṁ viparītatāṁ vā svaceṣṭitānyeva naraṁ nayanti

In this world, no one really can become generous and friendly with others, nor can he become the favourite of someone through influence or prodding of anyone else. No one can become an enemy too through external influence

Actually, position of eminence, high status, weighty presences, all these are achieved by a person through his own activities in the right direction, with the right attitude and the correct orientation. The same person would be thrown down in the opposite direction to abysmal ignominy if his activities and attitude deserved such treatment.

इह here कश्चिदपि not even a single नरः man कस्यचित् through प्रभावात् the influence of, through the power and instigation of उदारःgenerous, अभिमतः friendly, favourite खलो inimical, of adverse nature वा भवति happensअस्मिन् in this लोके world नरं man गुरुत्वं status of substance, importance, weightiness तस्य iots विपरीततां opposite वा either स्वचेष्टितानि ones own actions, ones own activities एव only नयन्ति lead
