उपकर्ताऽधिकारस्थः स्वापराधं न मन्यते ।।

उपकारं ध्वजीकृत्य सर्वमेवावलुम्पति ।। 341/094

upakartā'dhikārasthaḥ svāparādhaṃ na manyate ।।

upakāraṃ dhvajīkṛtya sarvamevāvalumpati ।। 341/094

Hitopadesham

A person who has reached the position of power never remembers or tries to recall the misdeeds and unrighteous activities he had indulged in during his climb to power, but always used the veil or the benevolent shadow in the shape of good actions and progressive activities undertaken by him and pushes the misdeeds under the rug.

अधिकारस्थः the one who has attained the position of control, authority उपकर्ता who has already helped others स्वापराधं ones own earlier misdeeds, unrighteous actions न मन्यते do not consider seriously पूर्वं earlier कृतं done उपकारं help, service ध्वजीकृत्य portraying as flagship achievement सर्वं everything अवलुम्पति coverएव only

ഹിതോപദേശം

നല്ലതും അത്രയൊന്നും നല്ലതല്ലാത്തതും ആയ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലൂടെ അധികാരസ്ഥാനത്ത് എത്തിപ്പറ്റിയ ആള്‍ പദവിയില്‍ എത്തിയ ശേഷം താന്‍ അതുവരെ ചെയ്ത ഉപകാരങ്ങള്‍ അടിവരയിട്ടു പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ട് ജനപിന്തുണ നേടുന്നു. അതേസമയം സ്വന്തം വീഴ്ച്ചകളും അതുവരെ സംഭവിച്ച പോരായ്മകളും എല്ലാം അധികാരമാകുന്ന കൊടിയുടെ നിഴല്‍ കൊണ്ട് മറച്ചുവയ്ക്കാനായിരിക്കും അയാളുടെ നിരന്തര പരിശ്രമം
